Why are my changes to contacts or leads in my Email Marketing application not being synced to my CRM?

Your CRM always takes higher precedence over your email marketing platform. Any changes in your CRM will always be synced to your Email Marketing application. 

Contact data is synced from your Email Marketing application only if the email address doesn't exist in your CRM at the time of syncing.
